All together, better
Who We Are
Buxton Town Team is a community organisation made up of ordinary people who want to make our town a better place to live, work and visit.
Our projects include everything from gardening and crafts to fundraising and events. We’re enthusiastic, inclusive, welcoming and we want to involve as many people as possible – we believe everyone has something to offer, no matter what their age or experience.
Buxton Town Team was founded in 2012 in the wake of the Government’s Portas Pilot initiative, aimed at regenerating Britain’s high streets. There was stiff competition for the funding and the town didn’t make the final cut – but we decided to go ahead and make Buxton better anyway!
Following a series of well-attended public meetings, Buxton Town Team was established as a Community Interest Company (CIC) whose objective is “to advance the prosperity of Buxton and the wellbeing of its community”.
We currently have over 300 members who appoint a board of nine directors.

What We Do
Our aim from the start has been to unite Buxton, embracing all its different areas, cultures and interests as ‘one town’. The principle – and our motto – is: All together, better.
We always have a variety of active projects on the go, from regulars such as the Slopes care team and the litter picking group, to special initiatives such as helping to develop a local transport strategy and improving the look of Buxton’s Fairfield gateway.
Some of our most successful projects have included:
Market regeneration - Higher Buxton is now home to a regular outdoor market each Tuesday and Saturday
Christmas lights - Buxton town centre is now lit up and decorated for the festive season each winter
Talking signposts - Visitors to the town can look out for badge-wearing volunteers to show them the way
Peak District Boundary Walk - Creation of a new national long-distance walk, starting and finishing in Buxton
