Projects

Our projects include everything from gardening and crafts to fundraising and events...
and they're all overseen by our ACTION GROUP
All our active projects are listed below – along with others which have now been completed.
We give details of ways to get involved in our regular newsletters. If you're interested in a particular activity you can also sign up for a WhatsApp group, to keep in touch with like-minded members.

We are encouraging people to leave their cars at home by supporting an initiative to develop a network of safe and pleasant routes for walkers, cyclists and in some cases horse riders. The aim is to link residential areas with schools, places of work, the town centre and shops – as well as existing cycle trails and footpath networks.
This is an ongoing project. Most recent activities have included a day-long 'travel' event in the Market Place including displays, activities, a chance to try electric bikes and mobility scooters, and information about bike and car share schemes and public transport.
Each year we work with other organisations to decorate the town for Christmas. Over the last couple of years – and with the support of local people and businesses – we have put some of the sparkle back into Buxton.
Fairfield Road – Gateway to Buxton
Fairfield is one of the main routes into town, but it wasn't the greatest advert! So a group of local residents got together to improve it by cleaning, tidying and beautifying.
Utilising Corporate Volunteer Hours
Employees from some local companies have used paid 'volunteer' time off to help the Town Team with projects including repainting the bridges in the Pavilion Gardens.
A series of work sessions on The Slopes has become a regular activity, with a team of volunteers meeting weekly to take care of everything from weeding, trimming, cleaning moss from stone walls, urns and railings, and painting the benches – not just on The Slopes, but at numerous sites around the town.
This neglected garden alongside the River Wye has been transformed thanks to volunteers who have planted flowers, cut back trees and cleared the river. It also includes valuable initiatives such as Rewilding the River Wye.
Once a month, the group meets somewhere around the town, taking bags, barrows and litter pickers with them, to clear out the rubbish and keep Buxton looking beautiful.
AND THERE'S MORE...
That’s not all: we're always on the lookout for new projects. If you have a suggestion that fits in with Town Team objectives – or if you'd like to get involved in helping with any of our projects – we’d love to hear from you. Contact details below.
