The Slopes Care Team
ONGOING
Do you fancy some regular activity to meet and make new friends, provide gentle exercise and make Buxton look a bit better? Yes... then read on!
Buxton Town Team is on the look out for volunteers to join our existing Slopes and Slopes About Town project teams – we've also recently joined forces with the Friends of the Pavilion Gardens. All help to maintain and improve many of the open and green spaces and flowerbeds in and around Buxton.
Jobs involve outdoor gardening work like weeding, edging and planting bulbs, as well as clearing litter and moss off pathways and staircases. Sometimes there's painting, pruning, cleaning or minor repair work too.
Interested? Our teams meet weekly throughout the spring and summer...
The Slopes Team meets on alternate Thursday and Saturday mornings, 10am -12 noon, at the Slopes car park outside the Town Hall.
Slopes About Town meets on Thursday evenings, 6-8pm, starting from the Turner Memorial at the foot of the Slopes – or join the WhatsApp group for more details.
All tools are provided but please bring your own protective gloves.
We look forward to meeting you.
HOW IT ALL STARTED
The Slopes team began back in 2016 when Town Team members were tidying up round St Ann's Well and noticed there were a lot of weeds in the steps, and encroaching onto the paths... We organised a series of work sessions... later expanded to cleaning moss off the stone walls and urns... then repointed slabs round the war memorial, cleaned signs and railings and, with help from Cemex volunteers, cleaned and painted all the benches.
These days we've expanded to cover the whole town, with our own Slopes About Town WhatsApp group to arrange where we're going to meet up each week!
