Regular Groups

Buxton Town Team has several groups who meet regularly – some twice a week, some weekly, some monthly – but all open to anyone who wants to get involved with our activities.

Our key groups are listed below, if you're interested in joining them please come along...
or contact us for more details. We're always pleased to welcome new members.

Come and join in!

We are encouraging people to leave their cars at home helping to develop a Walk & Ride Network of safe and pleasant routes for walkers, cyclists and in some cases horse riders. The aim is to link residential areas with schools, places of work, the town centre and shops – as well as existing cycle trails and footpath networks. The group is also campaigning to establish a Revolution VLR electric train link between Buxton and the Monsal Trail. Other projects include Buses & Boots walking and activity guides; and Moving Together, a new online platform designed to help local people find local transport solutions.

This extended group includes our Slopes Care Team and the Friends of the Pavilion Gardens, which is now part of Buxton Town Team, as well as those helping to care for the Serpentine Walks, Ashwood Park, Fairfield Road, and other areas about town.

Weekly work sessions have become a regular activity for Town Team volunteers – who meet each Thursday and Saturday during the spring and summer to take care of everything from weeding, planting, trimming, cleaning moss from stone walls, urns and railings, and painting the benches, as well a more complicated challenges like Rewilding the River Wye.

Each year we work with other organisations to decorate the town for Christmas – putting the seasonal sparkle back into Buxton. And the decorations aren't just for the winter... we also dress up the town for Easter, the summer festival season, Remembrance Day and any other special occasions too. Decorations are created by the Baublers, who meet most Mondays and Tuesdays at their barn home in Harpur Hill.

Once a month, the group meets somewhere around the town, taking bags, barrows and litter pickers with them, to clear out the rubbish and keep Buxton looking beautiful. This team also organise our annual Big Spring Clean – when we split the town centre into zones, each covered by a different team, who clean signs, litter bins, post boxes and anything else they come across, as well as picking up litter and clearing any weeds.

Our events team are always at hand to organise our part in occasions such as the Spring Fair, Dickensian Market and Heritage Open Days – as well as anything that crops up in between. New members are always welcome, whether you're volunteering to help staff our stall, act as a steward or bake a few cakes!

Keeping our members informed is an important part of what the Town Team does – and our Comms Team does a great job with our monthly newsletter. They also make sure others know what we're up to, by sending out press releases and looking after our social media pages on Facebook and X.
